On Sunday, March 23, 2014, volunteers for Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe were honored as People of the Year for 2013 at a festive dinner hosted by the Times Beacon Record newspapers.
All of the hundreds of volunteers who had worked hard to restore the site at Wardenclyffe on every Saturday since it was purchased on May 2, 2013 were represented by seven of their group: Michael DiBartolomeo, Tom LeDeoux, Karl Sidenius, Jeffrey Velez, Anthony Lopez, Paul Rosa, and Deborah Lohman. TSC@W directors Gene Genova, Christopher Wesselborg, and Jane Alcorn also attended the celebration.
The dinner was held at the elegant Three Village Inn in Stony Brook, New York. Following an introduction and award presentations to other honorees, Times Beacon Record publisher and editor Leah Dunaief introduced the TSC@W group as the most outstanding volunteers of the year. She said the work they are doing enhances the quality of life for the people of Brookhaven, all of Long Island, and beyond. New York State Assemblyman Steve Englebright then spoke about how important the Tesla site is and how it has the potential to be an attraction for people around the world.
As spring comes to Long Island, many People of the Year will come back to Wardenclyffe on Saturdays in 2014, beginning on March 29. This year they will help the Science Center make substantial progress toward a real campus.
