Nikola Tesla has been acknowledged more and more over the last 18 months. Recently, Dorrian Porter, a Tesla fan in Silicon Valley, California, decided he wanted to bring recognition to Tesla, whose inventions led to some of the innovative work being done there.
Porter launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to create and install a statue of Tesla in Silicon Valley.
He raised over $120,000 to accomplish his goal, and on December 7, 2013, the statue created by painter and sculptor Terry Guyer was revealed. A time capsule was inserted into its base containing the predictions and ideas of school children and the adults who contributed to the statue. The statue also contains a free wi-fi spot.
Porter, who has a business called Northern Imagination, sent a duplicate of the time capsule to the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe. Plans are being considered for how it will be used.
He also offered to share half of the proceeds of the sale of the remaining Tesla products he has from the Kickstarter campaign with Tesla Science Center. Anyone who would like to purchase an item and help to support Tesla Science Center can see what’s for sale at www.teslastatue.com, and click on the tab to “shop.”
