Spring is upon us! The new season for Volunteer Opportunities is about to begin! Projects are being planned, permits are being received, and this promises to be a very busy year.
Local Tesla fans may have noticed the new sign that was recently installed at the corner of Route 25A and Randall Road. It took a while to plan it out, get it designed, get permits from the town, get it made, get it installed, get electrical connections made, and get the final inspection. We are so pleased it is finally done!
The experience of just getting a sign made and installed has taught us a lot about the processes we will have to follow for each of the buildings on site.
The Visitors/Welcome Center in the Bauer House is our first building slated for completion. Work will begin within weeks, and the goal is to have it open some time during the summer.
The Program Building in the former administration building is next, with an opening date goal of summer 2018.
During this time we will also begin to work on the beautiful Stanford White- designed laboratory building. Now that we’ve had a historical resources survey performed, we can begin the planning for how to approach the restoration of the lab. It will require special care, as the interior has been changed over the years, and we want to be careful to preserve all the historic elements.
We’ll share with you our progress as the work commences. Perhaps you’ll join in on some of the work, and see firsthand how it’s going.
