Fall 2002

Decision expected on remediation plan. Agfa, the owner of the Wardenclyffe property, has submitted a draft remediation plan for the cleanup of their property, to the New York State Department of Conservation (DEC). A preliminary decision by the DEC is expected for the fall of 2002.

FSE web site released. We proudly present our newly released web site at a temporary home. We have made an effort to present accurate and useful information. Please use the "E-mail" links on our pages to send us feedback, suggestions, corrections, and ideas. Your input is important to us. Most of all, please become a member and support our cause.

Early Summer 2002

Shoreham Hamlet Study supports Tesla Science Center. The Shoreham Civic Organization has released its Hamlet Study assessing opportunities for future development of the Shoreham hamlet from a civic perspective. The study lends strong support for the development of the Agfa property at Wardenclyffe into a science and technology center.

23 October 1999

Geology tour with Steve Englebright. Friends of Science East, Inc. is sponsoring a field trip through the Long Island Pine Barrens with NYS Assemblyman Steve Englebright as guide. Mr. Englebright is a noted naturalist, educator and geologist. The public is invited to participate in this field trip, which will be held on Saturday, October 23, starting at 8:30 a.m. with a bagel breakfast, followed at 9 a.m. by the field trip. The fee is $20 per person. For reservations and additional information call 744-0010.

Spring 1999

The third issue of FSE's Newsletter has been released featuring, among others, information on the opening of the Nature Trail in Rocky Point; Nikola Tesla—Discoverer, Part 2; FSE Board member profiles; and updates on ongoing FSE activities.

24 June 1999

Passive Park Nature Trail opens. Friends of Science East board members joined the Rocky Point Revitalization and Beautification Committee to celebrate the grand opening of the Rocky Point Park and Preserve. FSE met the public and talked with them about the nature trail developed by our organization and about our plans for the Wardenclyffe site. (See here for the full story.)

3 October 1998

Dr. Quinton Quark's "Much Work with Little Effort" was a resounding hit with the audience. The former physics teacher and Ringling Brothers clown presented numerous demonstrations and unique props to teach the basic principles of motion and energy in an exciting, humorous manner. 14 and 21 July 1998

Science fiction film nights. In collaboration with the historic Vail-Leavitt Mini Ciné in Riverhead, FSE held two Science Fiction Film Nights. The Vail-Leavitt Mini Ciné is operated by a not-for-profit organization which is trying to restore the old building and its upstairs theatre and auditorium. Program: Tuesday, July 14, STARGATE and TRON; Tuesday, July 21, the H.G. Wells classics WAR OF THE WORLDS and THE TIME MACHINE .
